Tyson, a U.S. Navy veteran from Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, served as a sonar technician aboard the USS Ramage, with additional deployment time on the USS Cole. Operating outdated sonar systems in high-pressure situations tested his adaptability and grit—but it also gave him lasting friendships and a global perspective he carries with him today.

Now a college student at UMGC and working part-time, Tyson finds balance in the company of his two dogs—Loki, a gentle but anxious Golden Retriever, and Nika, a high-energy Siberian Husky. They’re polar opposites, and together they help keep him grounded.

With support from Sierra Delta, Tyson is focused on training both dogs to improve their confidence, obedience, and ability to support him emotionally. The journey isn’t just about refining their skills—it’s about strengthening the bond between them and supporting Tyson’s continued transition into civilian life, with his loyal companions right beside him.
