Robert H. and Marley
Veteran: Robert H.
Branch of Service: U.S. Army
Location: Tennessee
Dog Name: Marley
Dog Breed: Goldendoodle
Robert began his military journey in 2001, just after high school in Springfield, Ohio. Over the next 23 years, he served with unwavering dedication—starting as an Artillery Forward Observer and eventually earning leadership roles within the Army’s most elite units, including the 7th Special Forces Group and the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne).
Despite sustaining serious back injuries early on, Robert pressed forward, completing seven combat deployments and earning a long list of qualifications. By the time he retired, he had achieved the rank of Headquarters Company First Sergeant and had earned the respect and trust of his peers across the force.
Since retiring with a 100% permanent and total VA disability rating, Robert has faced the ongoing challenges of PTSD, chronic pain, and anxiety. The loss of his beloved German Shorthaired Pointer left a major void—one that began to heal when Marley, a high-energy Goldendoodle, joined the family.
Now, with the help of Sierra Delta, Robert is working to train Marley into a reliable service companion. From daily routines to moments of stress, Marley’s presence brings comfort, connection, and a renewed sense of purpose. Together, they’re building a bond that supports healing and helps Robert stay grounded as he navigates life beyond the uniform.
