John S. and Goldendoodle Max

Branch of Service: U.S. Air Force

Dog Name: Max

Dog Breed: Goldendoodle

John grew up in a proud military family, and as the youngest of four, became the first to earn a U.S. Air Force ROTC scholarship—paving his way to study Environmental Engineering at the University of Florida. Eventually drawn to the legal field, he attended Harvard Law School and began his career in the Air Force JAG Corps in 2002.

Over the next two decades, John served with distinction across active duty and reserve roles around the world. But in 2024, life took an unexpected turn when he was diagnosed with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy—a rare, progressive neurological condition.

Determined to face the road ahead with strength and independence, John welcomed Max, a young Goldendoodle, into his life. With the help of Sierra Delta, Max is receiving specialized obedience and service training to support John in navigating the daily challenges of his diagnosis.

Together, John and Max are building a powerful bond—one rooted in trust, support, and hope. Max isn’t just a pet—he’s a vital teammate in John’s next chapter.

I have only had Max for 3 months, but I can’t imagine life without him. He is already my unconditional support and eager wingman to keep me getting up tomorrow and being my best for both myself and my family.
— John S.
