Christine M. and Ash

Veteran: Christine M.

Branch of Service: USAF, CA ANG, USNR

Location: Stafford, VA

Dog Name: Ash

Dog Breed: German Shorthaired Pointer

Christine is a proud veteran, having served across multiple branches of the military in the early ’90s. Her career included EOD training and work both in uniform and as a civilian contractor. After starting a family, Christine stepped away from military service to take on the equally challenging role of stay-at-home mom—a transition that eventually led her into coaching and education.

Now based in Stafford, VA, Christine works as a substitute teacher at Quantico Middle High School and is the head coach for the varsity baseball team. Athletics have always been a big part of her life, and coaching gives her the chance to stay connected to that energy while mentoring young athletes. She’s also a retired Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioner, having earned her purple belt before stepping back due to injury.

Dogs have always been central to Christine’s life, and recently she and her husband—also a retired veteran—welcomed two German Shorthaired Pointers into their family: Maze and Ash. What started as a companion for their gifted GSP turned into a passion project. Ash is now in early hunting and obedience training, and thanks to Sierra Delta’s support, Christine has been able to continue investing in his development through structured lessons and fieldwork.

As she and her husband prepare to settle into their retirement home in Tennessee, Christine is excited about this next chapter—one filled with adventure, time outdoors, and a deeper bond with the dogs that keep her grounded and active. Sierra Delta’s grant has helped her stay connected to purpose, routine, and the healing power of a well-trained four-legged partner.
